I
learned about Imperial Shelties from a my good friend, Lynn of CastleGate
Shelties. She had written me about our "Piper" and how
much he looked like her late Scooter. When I saw Scooter's photos it
was uncanny how much they resembled each other. I've enjoyed
corresponding with Lynn and now maintaining her Web site that was
designed by Daveena Michael of RiverDance
Shelties. Please take time to visit each of their sites to see
their lovely Shelties. I'm also friends with Cathy Wojcik, who owns Imperial
Shelties, where I mentioned Skyler and Quest came from. I've
learned a great deal about my chosen breed from each of them.
Anyway,
Lynn told me about a litter that was due at Imperial and I could
hardly wait to write Cathy to get all the details. The litter was to
be an AOAC one and that was just fine with me. I love the AOAC's. I
had requested a blue merle puppy, but had no idea about a bi-blue
until Skyler was born. I learned that it simply means they do not have
tan points like the blue merles. I instantly fell in love with this
color and along with the traditional merle pattern that Piper had
sported.
Much
to my surprise Skyler turned out to be the ONLY blue in his litter and
he was meant for me. Cathy's husband brought Skyler down to my mom and
me on September 11, 2000. Mom and I instantly fell in love with Skyler.
My dad also loves him and they are best buddies. Skyler
"haunts" my dad for food and he more often than not gets his
treats. Hence, one reason why Skyler stays on a diet. He is the
Garfield of Shelties. You feed him and his dish is instantly clean. He
is never in a hurry to do anything, except eat. You call him and when
he's ready Skyler will come. He's a riot!
My
dad and I are always "talking" for Skyler. He has an
opinion about everything. Skyler also "rums," when he feels
like you're eating something he wants. He asks "permission"
to enter a room if the Border Collies are already in it with another
set of vocalizations. As soon as you say "Skyler come!," he
jumps a few BC's and is by your side for a nap. Skyler loves to nap.
Either at the foot of my bed or underneath it. He sleep so soundly
sometimes you have to look to make sure he is breathing.
My
dad has often said there will never be another Sheltie like Skyler and
I believe that wholeheartedly. He has completely stolen our hearts!
As
soon as I've gone through some of my doggie CD's I'll post more photos
of Skyler in action. He, too, loves to play Kong ball.
The
above photo was featured as in the 2007 Keynote Specialties Sheltie
Calendar for April.
